Tamarindo Grande

The day after we hiked to Carlos Rosario, we took our dingy on an excursion and ended up in the same place as the day before.    Thought you might enjoy a photo or two of some the beautiful coral and fish that we found there.

This is a large school of Cojinua about 150 strong that came charging by.  I didn't have much time to aim the camera and fire but I caught to shots that are worth seeing.

Under The Sea!

After a beautiful walk over the hill under overcast skies, we head into the water camera in hand to explore.

Everywhere we looked were beautiful brightly colored fish, and the coral in Carlos Rosario is breathtaking.

Although these are beautiful pictures, this little guy is not a native to our area and is quite poisonous!

Lion fish are only dangerious if you grab him.

He was too busy being a lion fish to even notice I was there.

Although the skies were overcast the snorkeling was still beautiful.    People are always disappointed when it's overcast.

We never got one drop of direct sunlight and look at these pictures.  I don't see anything to be disappointed about!

After swimming for a good hour I popped up out of the water to find the world above was just as beautiful as the world below!

Boy  was it ever a Good Friday!

Hiking to Carlos Rosario

Looking for something to do on Good Friday we decided to avoid the throngs on Flamenco and hike out over to Carlos Rosario.

The trail is rocky and rugged and I remembered why I tell people they should not ride bikes over there.

I only thought to take photo's at the point where the ground was smooth enough for normal walking.

When I looked up I noticed the trail was quite lovely in our filtered light of a cloudy sky in the late afternoon.

Tiny blue butterflies circled around us on the trail.  I tried hard to follow them and get one that had landed but this little guy in the photo below was the only one who co-operated, but he was too shy to open his wings.
The macro setting on my camera let's you zoom right in on tiny subjects.   He's no bigger then your thumb nail.
As we crested the hill we were hit by the the roar of loud music being played by several different boats and the loud shouts and laughter of people drunk enough not to  notice the noise.

We chose to go swim on the other side hoping there would be fewer boats.   Fewer yes, but bigger waves.

Yes this was definitely quieter but although it looks flat in these photos it was actually quite rough and not good visibility.

So back we scrambled to the southern side of the point and entered the water between the boats.  We did however enjoy the aqua circus and their funny aquatic dances concerning deep water and open cans of beer.

Come back tomorrow and enjoy the underwater shots as the adventure continues.   These are just a couple of teasers to peak your interest.

Vieques Day two

Okay so the day didn't go as planned, but adventure is adventure and we had a great time.

We heard at the last minute that there was a boat was leaving at 1pm to go to Vieques and hear a symphony! So, we scurried around and got our stuff together and made a mad dash to the ferrydock.

We said good buy to Culebra in the bright beautiful light of day.

 <= Culebra behind us

    Vieques full steam ahead =>

Getting off the boat at 2:00 pm in Vieques was similar to 2:00 pm in Culebra.  The streets were empty. The shops and restaurants were mostly closed.

After helping ourselves to a  slice of William's Pizza we caught a taxi to the beach.

This photo below is straight out of the taxi door when we pulled up to the beach.
NICE!!!  I like this place!

Wanting to see the town of Esperanza we had the taxi take us to Sun Bay.

Sun Bay was a treat with its calm clear water.

<= Volly Ball nets!  (I've been thinking of renting these at the bike shop.)

Boy, do they have a nice public pier in Esperanza.
Their waterfront dining is mostly from across the street from the water.  But the view and the breeze are nice.

Seating at a makeshift waterfront bar.  Too bad the bar wasn't open!

We enjoyed the brick walkways and this tiny waterfront village.

As the light was fading we walked on, keeping an eye out for a public (taxi) back to the port town of Isabella Segunda.

Everyone said to just flag down a taxi, but no taxis showed up.

The concert we came here to enjoy would be starting soon, and I was eager to listen to the Trio playing their Quatros,  but even with phone numbers to call for a cab, we were not having any luck getting one to answer their phone.

The only taxi that answered the phone told us "Two hours."  So there we were waiting on the side of the road, beautiful full moon overhead.
Although there were plenty of restaurants where we were, Ken really wanted to try MR SUSHI that we had seen the earlier in the day.

By the time we made it back to the port, it was very late.
But, Mr. Sushi's was worth the wait.  Nice people and great food that was not too pricey

My back had gone into muscle spasms, so we opted on dinner and missed the festival altogether.   :(

While walking back to the port, I got a chance to take a photo of Coconuts restaurant where ate the first night.  Very good food here too!
